I sat for nearly 30 minutes before I could climb out of the car.

I'd been to an appointment that left me in more physical pain than when I arrived and had consumed and hour of my time.

I was spent.

Feeling empty and unsure, yet knowing I couldn't numb myself out for much longer I chose to head inside and focus on the familiar. The dishes, wiping down the bench, laundry tasks, any task that allowed gentle movement, processing and resetting to find my balance again.

A reset I like to use often is drinking a glass of water. It's a win-win because the physical actions of finding my glass, mindfully drinking so I don't choke or dribble and then refilling my glass allow me to move on to another task or gain perspective and complete the task at hand.

Finding safety doesn't have to be a huge, flag on a mountain top event. Safety is, and should be found in our homes first and foremost so we can cope better with the outside world as we explore ourselves and heal.

I am the operant power.

Everything is because of me.

I either allow it or I am consumed by it.

It is my responsibility to create boundaries and values that allow me joy and laughter, peace and harmony so that I can freely move through absolutely any curve ball that comes my way.

Next time you find yourself numbing out or heading into an unfamiliar situation try repeating "1,2,3 the power is ME!!!", three to five times and notice how good it feels remembering how powerful and capable you are despite what the external circumstances are saying.

Remember, the power to change lies within you.
